Color Very little Humor, no Fest


I have to tell the truth when I heard that the Fourth Fest of my dear friend Doggie Dylan would come in "humor" I immediately thought it was a good idea.
If nothing else would help bring a little 'of news in a newspaper that, in my humble opinion, is sinking like the Titanic and worse. And to think that just like the Titanic, the past of Dylan Dog was so beautiful ...

Ok, let's not take from the speech and face nostalgia Humor Fest, starting from the cover of Silver, the author best known for Lupo Alberto. And it is the character of Lupo Alberto (without the infamous blue wolf) to act as a boundary in a remake of Dylan in a comic on the cover of issue 1. I found the idea very apt and the situation depicted pretty funny.

Faraci on his blog had already thrown their hands thoroughly ahead of this story justified (and useless to pretend that nothing is what it has done) to what he considered the guardians of "true faith" Dylan.

First of all because, if they exist, I've never known one.
Second thing because there is no history "typically Dylan", as in this test is passed all the stories surreal and deliberately nonsensical thriller with paranormal stories through dense social criticism in which the narrative is subject to the message. And all this from Tiziano Sclavi, creator of the head, to last until the writers.
third and final thing: admitting that there are these guardians of "true faith" Dylan, how, I wonder, those guardians can expect to find a story "normal" in a comic strip that has a cover designed by Silver and which has Cavazzano designs (which I personally loved)? If I am a purist Dylan Dog is obvious that, or do not buy this Fest, or buy it but with the knowledge that once you open the comic will find something different.

Unfortunately there is not much imagination, that is the problem.

A world made of dummies? Already seen, already done (and it was on Dylan Dog if I am not mistaken, in "Nightmare a Midsummer Night ").
a London bombing, torn apart? Already seen, already done (once again Dylan Dog, more than once).

removing all the elements you've seen and reviewed more than one occasion, what remains are the catchy: the blond Swede who only repeats "Dylan" and "love" and the sailor belly always says "for this tripe" or "by the beard of that." Very little funny.
Faraci wanted to write a story lightly, but he did the wrong way. And in the light of what I say then also explain why.

Speaking of drawings, I can not help but notice the excellent reinterpretation humorous cartoon characters. Very beautiful drawings of Dylan (with a ciuffone exaggerated) and Bloch, a little 'less than those with Groucho (why did the big teeth?)

Final Remarks
Faraci reuses a bit' of this and a bit 'of that, putting together a story that basically has nothing to say and that fails to entertain in any way. The designs improve reading, but ultimately we remain disappointed.

The first thing that impressed me in this story are almost super-deformed designs by Massimo Carnevale. A style close to caricature, with disproportionate heads and faces to the limit of human (on all the face of Groucho).

The story I was not impressed.
The idea is good, but failure to reveal all the ugly too soon. Already half of them understand how it will end. So what after all was a good idea is ruined by an inappropriate conduct. At first, the story slips away well, then it bloats a bit and proceeds' slowly.
Too bad, because you could do better.

All in all it was a missed opportunity. With a couple of tricks could be a good story.
Once the drawings are to push forward the cart. The character of Dylan is a bit 'crushed by history, but it is not a bad thing. Unfortunately, Groucho is crushed by history and this is rather bad.
Whenever Groucho is portrayed as the usual zombie joke that brings the tea, a mustache slumps to the ground and dies.

The comedy in the first part is not anything special, as I said, but it can boast of incredible designs that best represent the surreal and comical side of the story. The idea of \u200b\u200bthis little role reversal, with Groucho becomes the great conductor of the absurd, I was impressed.

I think this story is all "dummies" could not be. It 's funny, full of dark humor (which I what I expect Dylan Dog ... not the dummies inside a ship) and surreal. That 's what I expected from this Fest Humor.
The drawings are the best in comics and support the great old jokes (But entirely justified, given what we discover in the end), sometimes they smile and sometimes not. Loved the return of the splatter, seen in a comic and disturbing in the first part in the second (the explosion of the head of Dylan's Oscar-winning cartoon).
Bello. Sure, he has reason to exist only on its short-term, imagine a balloon longer made up only of bad jokes is madness itself.

All in all it is higher than the "dummies", but at same time, the drawings I found them less well-chosen context.
The problem here is to want to challenge themselves with a history of "serious", but with designs that fail to make the most of the drama of memory loss in old age.
I can not find a poorly written story, but surely it is placed wrong. I would see better in a Maxi with a different design.

Basically 's lawyer would say Johnny Toothpick, this Fest is drawing its strength. The stories do not have anything particularly nice. Even that I think is the best cartoon that is "Dying laughing, "is more worthy of praise for the idea for the screenplay.
It seemed a good experiment and I'd still see something like Dylan Dog. Perhaps with a more accurate selection of stories.
At the same time But it was a bit 'lost opportunity. For once, the authors were allowed to do what they wanted, as they like to swim in the sea at the end of the absurd and the only one who did it was really Enna . His story is one that best fits all of the cartoon, with Fabio Celoni in shape.
